Anatomy & Biological Fluid Dynamics

Feather-Light Capillary Traction

Superficial lymphatic vessels are made of smooth muscles therefore they do not pump, and collapse under heavy pressure. Vodder manual lymphatic drainage uses precise skin stretching (30 mmHg pressure) to move interstitial fluid through vessels and micro valves to accelerate excess fluid and lymph clearance without causing tissue trauma.

Pre-Op & Seasonal Restoration

We do not do post-op, we do pre-op. MLD can prepare the body for surgery. Since the lymphatic system does not grow back, MLD practitioners have to wait six weeks to three months post specific surgeries in order to help the lymph flow in a new pattern around the surgical site.

Vodder Method & Unhurried Practice

Grounding in Original Vodder Methodology

North Shore collective specialists complete intensive training by a NCBTMB accredited MLD instruction. In addition to becoming a licensed massage therapist, in the state of Massachusetts, one must complete a minimum of 650 hours before having the ability to take a specialized course to learn this method. Ideal for those experiencing fluid retention, puffiness, or a feeling of heaviness in the body. Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) uses gentle, rhythmic techniques to encourage the natural movement of lymphatic fluid, supporting the body’s ability to maintain healthy fluid balance. Paired with Detox Therapy, this restorative treatment may help reduce temporary swelling, ease feelings of bloating, and leave the body feeling lighter and more comfortable. MLD is ideal for people who suffer from edema, lymphedema, and treatment for lymphedema.

10 Tips for Evaluating an MLD Specialist

  1. 01Verify that your practitioner holds a license in massage therapy or a registered nurse who has been trained in MLD and certified by a state accredited source.
  2. 02Confirm zero slip oils or heavy creams are used during primary MLD work.
  3. 03Ensure pressure remains feather-light throughout the entire treatment session.
  4. 04Require comprehensive health intake and contraindication screening prior to bodywork.
  5. 05Avoid practitioners offering aggressive "wood therapy" or painful fluid compression.
  6. 06Confirm unhurried arrival and departure time is built in around table work.
  7. 07Verify an anatomy-first assessment evaluating regional lymph node basins.
  8. 08Ensure clear post-treatment hydration, movement, and rest guidelines are provided.
  9. 09Confirm a private, quiet sanctuary setting designed for deep nervous system rest.
  10. 10Verify the practitioner prioritizes individualized care over commercial package selling.
